Nairobi, Octpber 30 Manchester City and Ivory Coast star midfielder Yaya Toure has supported the call by UEFA President Michel Platini to inflate the planet Cup from 32 to 40 teams.
Toure, who had been appointed as Goodwill ambassador for your Not Environment Programme (UNEP), Tuesday added his nation had not booked its location for Brazil 2014 despite the commanding 3-1 lead they’ve got over Senegal from the first leg in Abidjan a fortnight ago, reported Xinhua.
“The 5 slots given for Africa lock out many countries outside of the traditional big nations, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal. The theory may help more teams through the continent to take part in the event.”
“It’s only Ghana who is able to say these people have a chance. This view is that 3-1 just isn’t enough since the second leg is actually tough.
“We don’t come with an advantage since we’ll be playing away in Casablanca,” noted Toure, who had previously been the main Elephants team that crashed call at the group stage from the 2010 edition in South Africa.
They’re going to play their second leg of their final African play-off qualifier about the weekend of Nov 17 and 19.
Despite losing 2-1 to Chelsea Sunday, Toure backed City under Manuel Pellegrini to reclaim the Fifa Coins League title they won within the dramatic last day in 2012.
He was quoted saying Man utd will see that it is hard to offer the trophy.
“We’re playing well plus the championship recently started and that i’m seeking the top. To the part of United, it’s very tough for them with manager but we have been planning to do the things they did this past year.
“Arsenal and Liverpool are playing fine and it’ll be challenging to go them after that,” the star said.
